The Catholic world has been talking about different "Options" to help guard faith in the face of the increasingly aggressive culture of death. All of these options have one thing in common, namely: Be Authentically Christian. One of the petals of the beautiful flower of our faith is the life of prayer. To ensure that our children navigate contemporary culture with their faith intact, we must introduce them to the life of prayer early. Most parents already do this, via prayer before meals, before bed, and some do a blessing in the morning before leaving for the day’s activities. While this is a great start, we need more. We need to lead them to have an encounter with Christ. During our next Live Encounter, Fr. Ian VanHeusen will be sharing tools to help introduce and sustain a deeper prayer life for your children. All of the “Options” have truth and beauty that should be held together like petals in a rose. This is only one of the petals but it is an essential petal of communication with God for the sake of planting deep roots of faith for future generations and for the flourishing of Holy Mother Church.

What a daunting task this seems to be. We as adults have a hard time fitting into prayer in our own busy lives. In the words of St. Pope John Paul II "Be not afraid"! Fr. Ian will give you tools to use to help teach the essentials of contemplative prayer to your own children or grandchildren, or your Catechism students.

Fr. Ian VanHeusen received a B.S. in English Education from Fayeteville State University and was a teacher for 2 years before entering seminary. As a seminarian, he developed ways of integrating Lectio Divina into the classroom and has implemented them in a variety of circumstances. This webinar will give you the tools you need to help your children pray with scripture, whether you are a catechist, teacher, or home-school parent. Fr. Ian will teach you ways to help your children pray with scripture, whether it's a 3 minute intro activity or a full lesson.

Fr. Ian VanHeusen is a parish priest in the Diocese of Raleigh, NC. In addition to studies in English Education at Fayetteville State University, he has a Masters of Divinity and a Masters of Arts in Theology from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary. He has a passion for prayer and meditation and you can find more of his writings on the subject at
